Gov Aliyu urges review of civil service rules
NIGER State Governor Babangida Aliyu on Wednesday advocated the immediate review of the Nigerian Army regulations and the civil service rules, especially the areas dealing with retirement age.
Aliyu said the suggestion had become necessary because many young men who had served in the civil service and the Nigerian Army had been forced to retire even when they were still energetic.
Aliyu said this in Minna when he received the new Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Major General Shehu Abdulkhadir, who will be retiring from the Nigerian Army next year.
According to him “now that we are producing educated people in all disciplines, there is a need for us (Nigeria) to review the conditions of service of people in the military and the civil service.
“We should find a way to retain those who are between 60 and 70 years of age, unless people retire voluntarily.”
Aliyu said the young retirees could also be used in different positions for the overall development of states and the country.
The governor also said that there must be synergy between the military and the civil society to guarantee peace in the land.
Aliyu promised to assist the Nigerian Army to renovate some parts of its barracks and set up a cabinet committee to prepare a position for the government against next year’s budget.
Earlier, Abdulkhadir had commended the peaceful atmosphere existing in the State saying government policies and programmes.
He also commended the Niger State Government for intervening in the rehabilitation of the barracks.
