A Pause for Gratitude. TEXT: PSALM 107:1-9
“For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness” (Psalm 107:9).
The nature of man is selfish, short-sighted, dissatisfied and ungrateful. It does not see anything to be grateful except to complain, murmur, protest and express discontentment.
Some believers are not anything better as they have become experts in anxiety, worry, complaining, murmuring, protesting and petitioning. They never see anything to be grateful to God for, not even for the miracles of being alive, or any other miracles of good health and sound mind, provisions, protection, mercy and favour of God, good spouses, children, good job, divine sustenance and above all, the salvation of their souls. Such believers have forgotten when they were in captivity of sin, Satan, sickness, deprivation, oppression, attacks and afflictions of the enemy and how they called on God who delivered them from the hands of their enemies.
This is unlike this Spirit-inspired psalmist in our text who expresses a deep appreciation to God for His goodness and wonderful works to the children of men; who makes rain to fall on both the righteous and the wicked. The Psalmist particularly calls on believers to wholeheartedly, excitedly give thanks, first, because God is good, second, because His mercy is everlasting and third, because He has redeemed them from the hand of the enemies who had kept them captive but when they called on the Lord, He delivered them.
From today, make it a point of duty to always thank God because there is something to thank God for. “O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so .…”
Thought for the day:
God is worthy of our praise.
