Reward for Consecrated Believers, Text: Mark 10:28-34
“Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee” (Mark 10:28).
Actuarial scientists and accountants agree on one thing: the need to take investment for future dates seriously. While accountants look at financial details, insurers are more concerned with what uncertainties the premium paid today will forestall in the future. In other words, what you give translates into dividends tomorrow.
The thought of the future occupies the minds of a greater majority of people. Far more important, a Christian needs to be concerned, but not worried, about the future, both here in time and thereafter in eternity. This was aptly expressed by Peter in his incisive question to Jesus Christ.
Rather than answer in the context of the 12 disciples following Him in those days, Jesus took advantage of the curiosity of Peter to address a general quest of the mind of mankind. He gave an answer that transcended the group of people following Him at that time and age.
“Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life” (verses 28 – 30). Despite this assurance, however, Jesus did not hide from His disciples the kind of death He was going to die. He also told them of His resurrection, giving hope, that death is not the final end for those who follow Him here on earth.
Dear believer, the premium you are paying today will mature one day. And you will receive the due benefit at the end of time. Don’t give up. Continue to consecrate every aspect of your life to God today. The Great Messiah, who has promised, and cannot fail, will reward you many folds and over. Your premium will be highest however if you hold the beginning of your confidence steadfast unto the end.
Thought for the day:
Only what is done for Christ shall last through time and eternity.
