Avoiding God’s Wrath. Text: PSALM 106:34-48
“Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance” (Psalm 106:40).
God does not demand too much from men. What He desires all the time are obedience and righteousness which paradoxically, He gives man the grace to accomplish. Curiously, many a man choose the path of disobedience and unrighteousness.
The children of Israel enjoyed uncommon favour and unlimited blessings because of God’s special relationship with them. He made a covenant with Abraham their progenitor, promising him that the whole earth shall be blessed through him and his seeds after him. Abraham obeyed God and wholeheartedly walked with Him in righteousness. As a result, he was very rich in cattle, in silver and in gold. Eventually the nation of Israel was born, and God in His infinite mercy and love continued to bless His people as long as they remained obedient unto Him. He delivered them from the hands of Pharaoh and brought them out of the land of Egypt. He divided the Red Sea before them and gave them water from the rock. He gave them victory over their enemies and fed them with manna, for forty years in the wilderness. He gave them the best of all things to enjoy.
Unfortunately, Israel forsook the Lord and went into idolatry and unequal yoke with the heathen. Their rebellion against God brought divine wrath upon them. “Israel hath cast off the thing that is good; the enemy shall pursue him”. However, God was still imploring them to turn away from their evil ways so that iniquity would not be their ruin. He promised to forgive them if they would repent and return unto Him with all their hearts.
Your problems and suffering might have been caused by your sin. “There is no peace, saith my God unto the wicked.” To escape God’s wrath upon your life, you must turn away from all sin. A renunciation of sin and wickedness will cause the grace of God to flourish in your life, evoking a myriad of both temporal and eternal blessings.
Thought for the day:
Damned is the soul steeped in sin.
